Five Things to Do if You Are in a SEPTA Accident
If you are involved and injured in a SEPTA Accident, it is important that you take certain steps immediately. SEPTA attorneys or employees may contact you in the hours after a SEPTA accident before you’ve had a chance to speak with an attorney of your own so you must be prepared. Here are five things you can do after you’ve been in a SEPTA accident to ensure you do not give up any of your rights for a successful recovery:
1. Complete the Incident Form. After any SEPTA vehicle is involved in an accident, you should be given an Incident Form to fill-out. This form will ask your name, address, date of birth and a description of the accident and your injuries. The form will be a carbon-copy, of which the SEPTA driver will retain a copy and you will take a copy. Be sure to fill this form out and keep your copy in a safe place. If you are not given an Incident Form, ask the driver for one.
2. Take Notes. If at all possible, you should take notes about the accident. Important information you will need is the location of the accident, what route you were taking, where you were sitting, the driver’s name (or at least a description of the driver), and descriptions of any other vehicles involved in the accident.
3. Seek Medical Care. If you are injured, you should seek medical care immediately. Ambulances may arrive on the scene of the accident to take injured passengers to a nearby emergency room. If an ambulance does not arrive on the scene, you should go to an emergency room on your own as soon as possible after the accident. Delaying your treatment may cause your injuries to worsen, or lengthen your recovery time.
4. Do Not Talk to SEPTA Attorneys or Employees. SEPTA Attorneys or employees may contact you after the accident to ask for a recorded statement or information about the accident. You are under no obligation to speak to a SEPTA attorney at that time and may hurt you chance for a successful recovery if you give a recorded statement. If you have already contacted an attorney, which you should have, you can simply inform the SEPTA representative that you are represented by an attorney and that all questions can be directed to your attorney.
5. Contact an Experienced SEPTA Accident Attorney Immediately. The sooner you contact an attorney, the better. Your attorney’s investigation can begin on your behalf right away and you will have the protection of an attorney from the very start.
